      Festivals: Quebec City Toboggan Ride

    1. Every year, Canada hosts one of the biggest winter festivals in the world, the Quebec Winter Carnival. And for more than a century, one of the festival’s most popular attractions has been the Glissade de la Terrasse, a triple-chute toboggan run. If you go, you can pile onto a wooden toboggan with up to three of your friends. Hold on tight, because the hill is steep, the ice is slick, and your speed can reach more than 40 miles per hour (64 km/h)!

As soon as they feel the earth warming, all 75,000 of them swarm out to greet the sun. Tourists come from far and wide to see what is believed to be the largest gathering of snakes in the world. It’s quite a ssssssight.

When the Moon Comes

written by Paul Hartbridge, illustrated by Matt James

Experience a moonlit night during a Canadian winter, when the snow is powder, the night is bright, and the water is finally frozen hard. For the country kids in this book, that means the conditions are perfect, and the game is on. Brilliant illustrations and evocative text turn the first pond hockey game of the season into an unforgettable adventure.
